Features

Video subtitles, start to finish, on your Mac

Download and import

Start from a file or a link

Drag in a video, or paste a link from YouTube, Bilibili and many other sites and choose the quality. Subtitles the video already has come with it as a track, and SRT, VTT, ASS, TTML, SBV, LRC and TXT files import in any text encoding.

Subtitles

Subtitles that are easy to read

CaptionCraft transcribes with word timings and speakers, then splits the text into subtitles by line length, reading speed and duration. A list, the video and a timeline with the waveform let you edit, split, merge and drag every line, with keyboard shortcuts for all of it.

  • Readability checks mark lines that are too long, too fast or overlapping, and fix them in one click
  • Find and replace, undo and redo, speakers to rename and colour

Align and sync

Line up a script, or fix subtitles out of sync

Have the script already? CaptionCraft times it to the audio. Subtitles that start late, drift or come from another cut are found and put back in sync, and each line can snap to where speech starts and to shot changes.

Translate and review

Translations that fit on screen

Translate with the whole video as context, your glossary and the tone you choose. Lines that would be too long to read in time are shortened, and the translation keeps the original's timing for bilingual subtitles.

  • Proofreading suggestions for misheard words and names, to accept or reject
  • A glossary of names and terms: rename once, everywhere
  • Summary, title, tags and YouTube chapters from the subtitles

Styles

Styled for each platform, exactly as exported

Font, size, colour, outline, shadow and a background box, placed on a grid or dragged into place with the platforms' safe areas shown. Start from presets for Douyin, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu and YouTube, vertical and horizontal, and save your own.

  • Bilingual layouts with a style per line, word-by-word highlighting, fades
  • The subtitles in the editor are the ones burned into the export, to within a pixel

Dub

Give the video a new voice

CaptionCraft separates the voices from the background, gives each speaker a voice, cloned from the original once you confirm you have the right, or a ready-made one, and fits every line to its timing. Compare with the original, and only the lines you change are dubbed again.

  • Lines too long for their slot are flagged, with a shorter rewrite one click away
  • Record a line yourself to replace it

Video and export

Cut it to size and export

Trim the start and end, crop to 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 3:4 optionally following the subject, change the resolution and compress to a quality or a file size. Nothing is changed until you export.

  • MP4 with burned-in subtitles, or soft subtitles in several languages
  • Several audio tracks: the original and each dub
  • Subtitles as SRT, VTT, ASS, TTML, SBV, LRC or TXT, and FCPXML for Final Cut Pro

Batch and automation

A whole folder, with nobody at the Mac

Save the steps as a template ("English video to bilingual vertical", say) and run a batch with it, or watch a folder and have every new video subtitled, translated, styled, dubbed and exported on its own, with a notification when it is done.

Privacy

Your videos never leave your Mac
